Now, 24×7 water supply all over the city – Hitwada

Scheme to be launched from water deficient zones

IT IS a time of rejoice for citizens as Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has decided to provide uninterrupted water supply in the entire Orange city. The NMC is the first civic body in entire country, which is implementing this scheme in the entire city.

Standing Committee took this bold decision for implementing 24×7 water supply in all the assembly constituen-cies of the city. A joint venture of Veolia Water Private Limited and Vishwaraj Environment Company. The company has committee for capi-tal expenditure of Rs 566 crore for uninterrupted water supply. The scheme will be implemented in next five years.

Standing Committee Chief Sandip Joshi called it as Diwali gift for Nagpurians from Ruling Bharatiya Janata Party led Nagpur Vikas Aghadi and Shiv Sena. In a press conference, Joshi said that Nagpur Environmental Services Limited (NESL) will ink an agreement with the JVC in next four or five months. This is a historic decision for the city, he said. The committee has given con-tract for 25 years to the company.

It may be mentioned that Central Government has given nod to detailed project report (DPR) for PPP model of 24×7 water supply in February 2009. At that time, the total cost of the pro-ject is Rs 387 crore and 50 per cent amount (Rs 193 crore) of the project
