Nov 8: “After the success of the experimental scheme `round-the clock water supply’ to provide 24 hours of water, the scheme will now be implemented in entire city. The scheme was initially implemented in Dharampeth zone and it proved to be a successful experiment”, informed. Standing Committee chairman of NMC Sandip Joshi while talking to media per-son here on Monday.
Now the NMC has decided to implement the same scheme in entire city, 566 crore will be spent on this scheme. The scheme will be jointly implemented by Violia Company and Vishwariath Environmental. The ruling party has claimed that this scheme will help for equal distribution of water in the entire city.
The city is provided with 540 cubic cm of water every-day. However, some parts of the city are supplied with excessive amount of water. This scheme proved to be a success in Dhrampeth zone. 4,500 water connections were made regular which were found to be illegal. This scheme will provide with abundant water to the entire city.
This scheme can not be called as privatisa.tion of water supply. Both compa-nies will work as agents. The companies will not be the decision making authority neither will it occupy any NMC land. The water units decided by NMC and all decision making powers will remain with NMC.
