‘On-boarding People’ is the need of the hour for long term PPP in water projects to succeed’
Mr. Arun Lakhani, CMD, VIL, delivered a keynote address on Water for billion + People, at 3 days International conference on “Water, Waste Water, Sanitation, Solid Waste Management and Clean Energy”, organized by Messe Frankfurt in Delhi on September 10, 2014.
Mr. Lakhani, spoke on the ‘Importance of the 4 th P in ‘PPP’ Water and Waste Water Reuse’. He emphasized the need to review the current PPP structure and brining in 4 th P, the “People” in the prevailing PPP model as they are the largest stakeholders. He also highlighted the importance of transparency in the PPP structure & right communication to the citizens for gaining trust and ensuring success. He advocated the need of 100% investment by private sectors for building up the sewage treatment capacity as untreated sewage discharge is threatening human health and depleting water bodies. The need for private sectors is to contribute towards a cleaner India.
Mr. Sanjiv Kumar, I.A.S, Secretary (Environment & Forest), Govt. of NCT of Delhi, Dr. Sunita Narain, Director General, Centre for Science and Environment, Mr. Sudipta Das, Partner, Climate change and sustainability leader (India), Ernst & Young & Mr. Sasidhar Chidanamarri, Associate Director, Energy & Environment Practice, Frost & Sullivan also spoke on the occasion. Mr. Das spoke on shaping India’s water future.
The seminar was jointly organised by Messe Frankfurt and supported by Teri, IBA, CPCB, ISGF, NSWAI and aimed at bringing a positive action. The conference was attended by policy makers, bureaucrats, environmentalists, industry representatives, civic authorities and national and international consultants.
